Art and Design

Art at Iqra
Where Art is concerned, at Iqra our intention is that:

  • Art should be embedded in other subjects, as well as taught ‘discreetly’. eg pattern in maths, colour mixing in science, use of tools for mark making in D&T and so on .
  • ‘discreet’ skills should be taught in well planned, time tabled lessons to ensure progression
  • art should not be seen as an ‘add on’ or ‘stand-alone’ activity, but rather a part of the learning process and a valuable skill for enhancing life and cultural awareness and furthering understanding of poetry, song, sculpture, mathematical presentation and so on
  • discussions of art by other artists should be a regular practice within other subjects, to enhance pupil understanding and to promote diversity
  • the enjoyment of making, creating, building and adapting should start at a young age and continue to be built upon year on year, inclusive of all genders, ethnicities and beliefs
  • all work created by pupils should be valued and assessed as any other piece of academic work would be
  • pupils involvement in ‘art’ will go beyond the curriculum in school wide projects, clubs and research opportunities
  • art should be fun, engaging and enlightening as well as informative, structured and progressive
